The most important thing you need to remember when spot cleaning any rug, is that you understand what materials it is composed of so that you only use cleaners and chemicals that are going to be safe for specific fibers. Once you determine that a cleaner is safe, test spot a hidden corner of your rug. Use a white paper towel or cotton cloth to clean the spot from the outside in. Always blot instead of scrubbing or rubbing at the stain in order to prevent further staining. Because of the nature of liquids and fibers, it is important that you try to remove the stain from your rug as soon as it occurs.
