How to Remove Fresh Paint From Your Carpet

Posted - 02/14/2012

If you spilled or dripped some latex paint on your carpet while you were painting a room, your carpet may not be ruined. There is still hope to get the paint out. It is important that you work to remove the stain as quickly as possible. You will want to get started while the paint is still wet.

First, use a clean, white cloth to blot at the stain. The cloth should absorb a lot of the paint. It is best to start blotting from the outside of the stained area to the inside to avoid spreading the paint. Next, use a wet sponge to blot up as much of the paint as possible. Again, be sure to work from the outside in to avoid spreading the paint and making the stain bigger.

Then you will need to get some mild dish detergent. Mix the detergent with one cup of tepid, clean water. Use a new clean cloth, and dip the cloth in the solution. Use the wet, soapy cloth to blot at the remaining paint. The paint should be almost or completely removed by now. Vacuum the area once the stained area has completely dried. If the stain remains, you will need to seek the help of a professional carpet cleaning company.
